Micheal McGee is a graduate student in the counseling psychology program at Bowie State University (BSU) and the current Graduate Student Association President. A former health care senior management professional, Micheal worked in the disability field for over 20 years, serving people from diverse populations with developmental or intellectual disability and mental health disorders. Micheal has been the director of residential services at EPIC (formerly Southern Maryland Vocational Industries), supervisor of employment services at MVLE, mid-Atlantic executive director at Sunrise Community Services, executive director for United Cerebral Palsy of Maryland, a member of the 2021 cohort of the White House HBCU Scholars Recognition Initiative, the Maryland Counseling Association human rights chairman, and Emerging Leader of the Maryland Counseling Association 2020–2021.
With a generous heart, Micheal passionately gives back to his community. He is a researcher for Healthy DC and ME, which is building a level two trauma center in Southeast Washington DC and the Atikal Foundation, a nonprofit organization that celebrates survivors of domestic violence and cancer while bringing awareness to the mental health issues often precipitated by traumatic experiences.

Cathy 18-years old, pregnant African American female from the Woodmore projects in S.E. Washington DC. Cathy as a child, was diagnosed with ADHD and depression, and is a fifth-generation residence where access to social supports in her community is challenging. Cathy who comes from a single parent household observe her mother struggle day-to-day to provide basic needs of support. Cathy finds herself while pregnant experiencing some of the same high levels of stress due to lack of access to community support like her mother.
Women who live in marginalized communities of color; and or pregnant; with lack of community resources has a greater risk of social and generational trauma; which correlates to their children being diagnosed with a physical or psychological disorder.
..to review and quantify the gap in psychological development before birth; by assessing the amount of stress in the mother’s social environment; and how lack of community resources correlates with the fetal psychological development.

The hypothalamus pituitary adrenal axis (HPA Axis) according to (Behnke et al., 2021) the HPA axis regulates the stress hormones starting in the hypothalamus area of the brain, the hormones corticotropin (CRH) is release during stressful situations. The pituitary gland receives the CRH and transforms the CRH in to adrenocorticotropic (ACTH); which doubles as a hormone and a neurotransmitter as it reaches the kidneys (Behnke et al., 2021). Once in the Kidney, the ACTH releases cortisol (a hormone) that regulates the fight and flight response in the HPA axis (Behnke et al., 2021).
According to the American Psychology Association (APA) "Trauma is an emotional response to a terrible event like an accident, rape, or natural disaster. Immediately after the event, shock and denial are typical. Longer term reactions include unpredictable emotions, flashbacks, strained relationships and even physical symptoms like headaches or nausea" (APA, 2020).
"In most cases, roughly a quarter of a million people in lower social economic and under-developed areas, parents are unaware that the health of their fetus is affected by their environment." (Frasch et al., 2020).
